![]() According to Forbidden West's director Mathijs de Jonge in the game's strategy guide, flying was the most difficult thing to implement into the game, and we can't help think a compromise to stop the PS4 version of Forbidden West from melting consoles was to limit the Sunwing's actual abilities. The ability to loop-de-loop or something would have probably made all the difference here, though we understand that's a bit of an ask to throw on top of a late-game unlock - we can see why the devs didn't divert everything they had into making this extra fun for the handful of people out there actually demanding it. ![]() In Forbidden West, the Sunwing just flaps incessantly, then crawls along the aerial landscape with very little style or panache. We have at least a sliver of hope thanks to Burning Shores' trailer, as we see the Sunwing dive and move a little more fluidly than in the base game. These irritating flying deathbots are an absolute pain to fight when you're not flying them, but once mounted these birds shut their plasma guns off and go passive - not that there's anything to fight in the air anyway. It's just a shame that there's nothing to actually do on the Sunwing other than trek from A to B. Sure, it's a wonder to see Forbidden West's landscapes rendered small beneath you, and you need only read TT Editor Kes' Horizon Forbidden West review for a testament to how powerful an effect this game's visuals can make on your time spent playing it. The problem is that, as a game-changing reward, the Sunwing removes gameplay rather than alters it, and it doesn't feel all that fun to actually control either. After trekking the titular Forbidden West, occasionally astride a mechanical beast or holding tight to your glider, it feels like quite the reward to just strap yourself in and let your mechanical bird do all the trekking for you. Hoping Horizon Forbidden West DLC's flying mechanics are funThere's no questioning whether flying a Sunwing in Horizon Forbidden West is cool or not - it undoubtedly is. ![]() Horizon Burning Shores, where the skies the limits.
